me

Graduation was nice. Prom was better. I don't really have much to say about either of those, except that deciding to wear a tuxedo for prom was really, really brilliant.

Anyway, I've been in the process of becoming a Real PersonTM, as opposed to an IB Student who has literally 0 time for anything that isn't IB.

So I've started going to the gym regularly at 7.30AM every morning (it's summer, I get up early because of the noisy douchebag birds outside my flat, I hate them so much so I might as well go early) which is kind of awful but also kind of feel-good at the same time. A friend of mine, who enjoys sports and does a lot of fitness (like, worrying levels) work, and I have agreed that fitness is pain. Anyone who says otherwise is, as they say, selling something.

I also started learning how to cook - and yes, I know, I didn't cook at all before this because a) no time and b) my mother's not big on letting me in kitchens, but my nani (my grandmother) is visiting and thankfully likes teaching people how to cook. She also isn't the ginormous perfectionist that my mum is. Which is not a bad thing, because my mum's an amazing cook and I love her and her food to pieces, but she's also a maths teacher. She has a thing about how much of x I add to y. It's kind of hilarious.

Anyway, so now I can make myself French toast, rice, and black and yellow dal (a vegetarian Indian ... lentil ... curry? ... thing you eat with rice or roti, I don't know how to explain this to people). My nani doesn't cook non-veg stuff, so I'm going to get my mum to teach me how that works in July, after she's done with her school.

My Coursera course is great; we just finished the Grimm tales and we're starting Alice In Wonderland. I've also gone on a music binge and acquired around 400 new songs. I blame 8tracks.com for being a really good way to find new music or bands. I've just discovered the xx and Massive Attack, for example, and finally gotten a lot of film score / instrumental music that I've been waiting ages to listen to.  (I have to recommend Basic Space (Jamie XX Space Bass Remix) by the xx. It's SUCH a good song.)

In film-stuff, I watched Snowpiercer (2013), which is an amazing film directed by South Korean director, Bong Joon-ho. It's really graphically violent at times, so I hid behind a pillow a lot, but it's still a brilliant, beautiful film that made me think a lot. If you can stomach your violence / if you don't mind hiding behind a blanket for the violent parts of the film, I 100% recommend it. Also, I'm hoping to go watch Maleficent soon with some friends, because it looks gorgeous and it passed the Bechdel test in the trailer itself, hello, yes, give it to me.

That was a lot about me. So, enough about me, tell me about you, how are you? What music are you listening to?

The journal title is from a chapbook by steven roggenbuck, called i am like october when i am dead, which I really love. (Did you guys see the honey moon on Friday? I did, it was lovely.)

Oh, and, I'm going to start my weekly feature of a poem and a prose piece, with a focus on diversity, this Wednesday. I still need a name for it - I might just end up calling it "Poem & Prose of the Week" because I'm kind of terrible with names. Any suggestions (for titles or works you want me to feature)?

You are brilliant. ♥ In so many, many ways, lovely one. Yay for going to the gym, boo to the snotty birds, and yay to the coking! <3
